Swayambhunath is an
ancient temple located on top of a hill
in Kathmandu. Because many monkeys wander around the temple, it is also
known
as “Monkey Temple.” As shown in the photos, occasionally some monkeys
seem to disrespect
religious icons, but these behaviors are tolerated. According to the
legend,
Buddha visited this site once and in Buddhism these monkeys symbolize
the
embodiment of wisdom. Watching these playful monkeys is fun, but make
sure that
you didn’t bring any food with you, otherwise you will be the target of
“robbery.”
