Ushuaia is the capital of Tierra del FuegoIt, which is an Argentine province. It is 750 miles from Antarctica and is arguably considered the southernmost city in the world. The Beagle Channel is a strait separating islands of the Tierra del Fuego Archipelago. Beagle Channel was so named because the British ship HMS Beagle sailed through this channel in the 19th century. On board there was an important passenger, Charles Darwin. Many wild lives, such as sea lions and cormorants, can be found on the tiny islands along the channel. The cormorant found in sub-Antarctic islands and the Antarctic Peninsula is known as the imperial shag. These birds do not mind sharing their colony with other wild lives.
