Cleveland Clinic
Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health in Las Vegas was designed by
Frank Gehry, the architect who also created Walt Disney Concert
Hall in Los Angeles. If you have visited both places, you can
easily see a common thread between Cleveland Clinic and WD
Concert Hall, such as heavy use of curved and metallic surfaces.
Some critics said that this style has lost freshness over the
years. Nevertheless, it is still refreshing to enjoy something
beyond gambling and glamorous shows. This $100 million project
was conceptualized in February 2007 and completed in May 2010.
The building sounds over-priced, but the cost of the
construction had been substantively reduced by outsourcing some
procedures to China. The clinic opened in July and thus it is
relatively less well-known. I just learned about it from a
friend who visited Las Vegas at the same time. As expected, when
my group reached there, we were the only tourists.
