Chaco Culture National Historical Park is not only a US national park, but also a United Nations' World Heritage site. The site is composed of many large-scale ruins that were populated by the Hopi and Pueblo people a thousand years ago. Archaeologists have reached a consensus that the site is not a residential town, but they are still not sure about the real function of the site. Some scholars suggest that it is a trading post while some assert that it was built for religious functions. To get there you have to drive through a 13-mile dirt road. Nonetheless, the road is so well-maintained that I could drive a small sedan through the road in a rainy day.
