In the past Route 66 was the only freeway connecting the west coast and
the east coast. However, as new highways replaced Route 66, many towns and
gas stations along the route became nothing but ruins. Cool Springs
station outside the town of Oatman was one of the forgotten places in the
US history. In 1997 Ned Leuchtner passed through the ruins of the Cool
Springs station and decided to rebuild the historic site. Ned tried to buy
the property for three years and in 2001 the owner agreed to sell. In 2004
the Cool Springs Station was restored and now it is a gift shop
merchandizing souvenirs related to Route 66.
The old mill shown in the last two photos were
taken at Crescent Moon Ranch of Red Rock Crossing, Sedona, Arizona.
