Heidelberg Castle, as the name implies, is a ruin in Heidelberg, Germany. The Castle is composed of different sections built in different eras, spanning from the 13th century to the 17th century, and thus the architectural styles are very diverse. The Castle was badly damaged during the religious wars in Europe, but not WWII. The stone bridge of Heidelberg was built in 1786-88. Near the end of WWII German soldiers destroyed parts of the bridge in an attempt to stop the advance of the US army. After the war it was rebuilt and was re-inaugurated in 1947. In 2001 the bridge was put on the list of the World Monuments Fund.
