The Cathedral, the Baptistery, and the bell tower constitutes Piazza del Duomo. Florence Cathedral was the largest church in Europe when the construction project was completed in the 15th century. This highly decorated area was intended to evoke "the holy city, the new Jerusalem" where God dwells among humans, conveying the message of the promised future kingdom of God.
