Estonia is a country in the Baltic
religion of Northern Europe. In 1939 the Soviet Union occupied Estonia
and a year later Estonia was "absorbed" into the USSR. In 1989 the
Communist Bloc in East Europe was weakened by the collapse of the Berlin
Wall and the "Singing Revolution." In the latter incident two million
people in Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania formed a human chain to express
their protest against the Communist regime by singing on the street. The
tour guide, who experienced this historic moment, told me that at that
time their people had nothing to lose and thus they dared to openly
challenge the mighty empire. In 1991 Estonia earned their independence
from the USSR, and the Russian troops left Estonia without firing a
single bullet.
