The Blue Mosque (the official name is Sultan Ahmed Mosque) is so named for its blue tiles on the interior walls. The Mosque was built in the seventeenth century during the rule of Ahmed I. The Blue Mosque has six minarets instead of the usual four, which resulted from a miscommunication between the sultan and the architect. The sultan wanted “gold” minarets but the architect misheard it as “six” minarets because the two Turkish words sound similar.

The Goreme Open-Air Museum is a vast monastic cave-based complex that was used Christians between the fourth century and the arrival of the Seljuk Turks in 1071. The Goreme Open Air Museum has been on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage List since 1984. It was very foggy when I arrived at Goreme. Nevertheless, this natural fog “filter” created a mystical atmosphere for my photos.
