RiSE is an annual event located on the Moapa River Reservation. During the event thousands of sky lantern ascend to the sky at night. A sky lantern is also known as Kongming lantern. Kongming was the defense minister and intlligence officer of the kingdom of Su Han during the three-kingdom period of China. His brilliant military strategy effectively deterred the two other regimes from aggressing Su Han. According to the Chinese astrology, every great person has a corresponding star in the sky owing to his/her divine or semi-divine nature. After Kongming passed away, the Su Han government fooled the enemies that he was still alive by releasing a sky lantern mimicking the star of Kongming.
