Swayambhunath is an ancient temple located on top of a hill in Kathmandu. Because many monkeys wander around the temple, it is also known as “Monkey Temple.” As shown in the photos, occasionally some monkeys seem to disrespect religious icons, but these behaviors are tolerated. According to the legend, Buddha visited this site once and in Buddhism these monkeys symbolize the embodiment of wisdom. Watching these playful monkeys is fun, but make sure that you didn’t bring any food with you, otherwise you will be the target of “robbery.”
