The
best place for bear-viewing in Alaska is
Katmai National Park and Preserve. Katmai is so remote that it is only
accessible by air. Unfortunately, due to bad weather the booked flight
was
cancelled. I took these pictures inside a tour bus with a 400mm lenses
while
visiting Denali National Park. Denali National Park is very huge (9,492
square
miles), but currently there are only 300-350 grizzly bears and 200
black bears roaming
around the park. Because the number of bears is low, it is very unusual
to see
three bears at once. I visited Alaska in early July. Sadly, at the same
time a female
camper was killed by a grizzly bear in Montana. A bear pulled the woman
from
her tent in the middle of the night though her friends tried to rescue
her
using bear spray. Needless to say, I stayed inside the tour bus and now I
have a
good reason to buy a 600mm telephoto lenses or a drone!
