The
little penguins shown in the first four
photos on this page are fairy penguins,
also known as blue penguins. They are so
named because their height is around 1
foot only their body is covered by
slate-blue feathers. They originated from
New Zealand and later migrated to South
Australia. Many years ago I viewed them
returning to their burrows in one evening
at Philip Island, Australia. Although at
that time I didn’t take any photo of them,
recently I got a second chance while
visiting the Blue Penguins exhibition at
Birch Aquarium, which opened on July 12,
2022.
