The pictures of sea
turtles were taken at Turtle Site of
Kaloko-Honokohau National Historical Park.
Spotting turtles on the sand or rocks is
usually straightforward, but during my
visit, they were all underwater. They were
hard to discern because their shells
blended in with the small, smooth rocks
and shared the same hue as the surrounding
stones. Even though I managed to spot
them, the reflection of the water made
photographing challenging. In this case, a
polarizer became handy.
On another note, my wife and I joined a
tour for dolphin and whale watching.
Carrying a heavy 600mm lens made it
impractical to have my camera constantly
ready for action. When a humpback whale
jumped out of water, I hurriedly lifted my
camera and managed to snap a series of
shots, yet I only succeeded in capturing
the whale's tail as it re-entered the
water. Conversely, using just her
light-weight smartphone, my wife was able
to quickly capture the whale as it leaped
from the water, showcased in the last two
photos.
