Turkish
belly dance originated from Egyptians and Arabs, but
today this kind of dance is considered unacceptable by many Muslim
societies
due to the incompatibility between the dancer’s costume and the strict
Islamic dress
code. Nonetheless, belly dancing is still popular in Turkey even though
over
90% of the Turkish population are Muslims. To me belly dance is an
articulated form
of performing art. Indeed the natural beauty of human figures is
appreciated by both Greco-Roman culture and the Catholic tradition.
