A permit is required to hike Half Dome at Yosemite National Park. Permits can only be obtained by a lottery system. My friends and I are so lucky that both of us won the lottery! This 16- to 17-mile round-trip hike is really challenging, especially for photographers. While most hikers pack only a few things, I carried two cameras, three lenses, a tripod, 4 liters of water, and food. The most demanding part of the hike is the ascent to the peak by grabbing the cable. Nonetheless, the reward is definitely worth the effort!
