Lost Dutchman

I associate hiking at Lost Dutchman with the analogy of "punctuated equilibrium" introduced by Stephen J. Gould: Things stay the same for a long time, and suddenly a big change happens. There is no spectacular view along the trail to the top of the mountain. But when I arrived at the peak, many gigantic rock columns popped up out of nowhere. The reward for my efforts was given at the last minute.
