The window of opportunities for capturing the images of Mexican gold poppy
and other wildflowers in Lost Dutchman State Park is narrow. Every year
wildflowers start to blossom in late February and the floral carpet
becomes the thickest in mid March. I was there on March 15. After the peak,
the flowers start to dry up and
die down by April. Some wildflowers close when the sunlight is absent, but open up in the morning once the sunshine wakes them up. The opening
process takes some time and thus midmorning is the best time to view
them. But you have to go there earlier than that because too many cars compete for
parking space.
