Abraham
Lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada was created in 1972 as a
result of
the construction of the Bighorn Dam. Abraham Lake is famous for its ice
bubbles
formed in winter. The ice bubbles are frozen pockets of methane, which
is highly
flammable. If you light a match there, these bubbles will explode. One
of the
challenges of photographing these ice bubbles is white balance. Many
pictures
of ice bubbles are saturated with blue. However, if you are there, you
can tell
that the bluish overcast is not what you see with the naked eyes. While
human
eyes can distinguish the blue sky from the white ice, the camera sensor
is
fooled. In these photos I adjusted the white balance to make them look
as
natural as possible.
