In Bora
Bora, visitors have the option
of taking either a small plane
or a helicopter for an aerial
tour. The helicopter tours
typically circle only Bora Bora,
while the small plane excursions
cover both Bora Bora and the
nearby heart-shaped atoll,
Tupai. Photographing the coral
reefs of Bora Bora and Tupai
from the air presents two main
challenges: First, the
airplane's wing partially
obstructs the view. Second,
passengers are not permitted to
open windows during the flight.
The colors of the coral reefs
and the surrounding ocean are
breathtakingly beautiful, almost
appearing surreal. However,
shooting through the aircraft's
windows resulted in hasty
captures that diminished the
vibrancy of these colors. To
address this, post-processing in
PhotoShop was used to restore
the true brilliance of the
scene.
In addition to the aerial tour,
I also captured images of the
fringing reef from ground-based
vantage points, specifically
from Magic Mountain and Toatea
Lookout in Moorea. These
alternative perspectives
provided a different but equally
captivating view of the region's
stunning coastal formations.
