Thunderbird Lodge is just a few miles south to
Sand Harbor State Park. The lodge used to be a vacation home of George
Whittell Junior, a rich
man who inherited US$ 40 millions from his parent before World War
Two. At that time he bought a large chunk of lands beside Lake Tahoe
(27 miles of the east shoreline). Think about how you would react if Yellow Stone or
Grand Canyon are privately owned. The government did not like this
type of landscape or seascape monopoly, and later bought the lands
bit by bit. Today Thunderbird Lodge is open for public tour, and
that's why I could photograph the east shore.
