Haute
couture is a French word for "high dressmaking, "high
fashion,” or specifically, customized clothing made by hand. The term
originates
from the work by English designer Charles Frederick Worth during the
mid-nineteenth century. In modern France, the name haute couture had
gained so much
prestige that one cannot use the term unless the product meets a very
high
standard. Nonetheless, in America the term loosely refers to
custom-fitted
clothing. In this set of photos the clothing of the models is one of a
kind. Can
they meet the high standard of Haute couture? You be the judge!
