After the Protestant Queen
Elizabeth I passed away in 1603,
English Catholics hoped that her successor, James I, would stop
persecuting Catholics,
but it didn’t happen. To fight the oppression, in 1605 thirteen rebels
planned
to blow up the Houses of Parliament. One of the team members was Guy
Fawkes. However,
the plan failed and as a result Guy Fawkes was arrested, tortured, and
executed. In spite of his failure, later Guy Fawkes became an icon of just
protest
and rebellion. In photography whenever models wear cult-like and rebellious
clothing,
this style is known as Guy Fawkes. |
