The Fresh meets the Salty

Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

The water falls inside Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park is called McWay Falls. This is where the fresh water meets the Pacific Ocean. Water keeps running in McWay Falls all year long, but in summer it dries up a bit. The best time to take picture of McWay Falls is late afternoon when the sunlight is dim. Under the shiny sun the shadow is very harsh and also it is difficult to make a long exposure to record the motion of the water. To get there one has to drive through Route One, which is along the coast. However, it is dangerous to drive on Route one at night. Therefore, the best season to visit the park is May. First, there is still a lot of water. Second, I arrived at 5:00 pm and finished photographing at 6:00 pm. From 6:00 pm to 8:15 pm the sky was still bright enough for me to drive along the coast.

Monterey

The upper picture was captured in the Children Garden of Huntington Library whereas the lower one was taken in Monterey Aquarium. Both are attractions for children and at first I didn't pay much attention to them. But my wife was fascinated by the fact that water can take any shape and thus urged me to take picture of them.
