High Island Reservoir was constructed by joining many small islands together for storing water. Because the reservoir faces the Pacific Ocean, frequent attacks from the waves could lead to structural damages of the dam. As a precautionary measure, the wave-stopping blocks were put in front of the dam.  High Island Reservoir  is a part of Hong Kong GeoPark system. In the last picture you can see that there are many hexagonal columns in that area.
