The hotel was built between 1926 and 1927 by the American Great Northern Railway. Don't let the name fool you. At first I thought the hotel was so named because the Prince of Wales stayed there before. Actually, the hotel was named the Prince of Wales because the hotel tried to attract the Prince to stay there on his 1927 tour to Canada, but the Prince chose to stay in somewhere else.
