Fog Waterfalls

The fog at Resurrection Bay created a mystical and romantic atmosphere in the scenery. The first three photos on this page show an odd phenomenon known as “fog waterfalls.” The formation is caused by an interaction between cold and warm air. To be more specific, when the cool fog from the mountain top encounters warmer air in the fjord, it drops down to the sea. In Iceland the phenomenon of fall waterfalls is much bigger and much more spectacular. Although the scale of this fog waterfalls in Alaska is small, it is still photogenic.
