Kasha-Katuwe National Monument is
located between Albuquerque and Santa Fe. This cluster of unique
rocks was formed about 6.7-7 million years ago by two natural
forces, namely, volcanic activities and erosion. Between volcanic
eruptions, water and wind mixed the igneous materials with sand
and gravel, generating different layers and colors of the rocks.
The monument has a very interesting slot canyon. Although most
parts of the trail is accessible, the last part is dangerous in
winter because the slope is steep and icy.
