Exploring the
Great Barrier Reef can be done
through air or boat tours. To
enjoy the holistic experience,
my wife and I opted for both.
However, our plans faced an
unexpected hurdle in December
when intense rainfall led to
severe flooding in the Cairns
Region, Queensland. Just two
days before our scheduled trip,
the tour company informed us of
the cancellation, as their
helicopters were deployed for
rescue missions. Undeterred, we
managed to find another tour
company with available a
helicopter upon arrival. The
pilot informed us that the water
clarity had been affected by
debris from upstream flooding.
Nevertheless, despite the
challenges, we were thoroughly
satisfied with the breathtaking
scenery.
The vivid colors captured in
these photos are natural and
haven't been altered through
Photoshop. Nonetheless, a
crucial editing step was
necessary. Due to glare and
reflection from the helicopter's
glass, I had to use software to
eliminate this optical
obstruction afterward. While one
method to prevent glares and
reflections is to place the
camera lenses as close to the
glass as possible, it's not
always feasible, especially when
my body was constrained by the
seat belt.
