During the
boat tour, we had the chance to
submerge ourselves underwater
for a close encounter with coral
reefs. I had prepared two
underwater cameras for this
exploration. Because such
opportunities may be a
once-in-a-lifetime experience,
it is a good idea to have a
backup. Unlike the vibrant
colors often seen in aquariums,
most of the coral reefs I
observed were not as colorful,
which was expected. The color of
coral is made by algae, and with
ocean waters warming, the algae
leave the coral, causing them to
bleach and turn white.
Unfortunately, many bleached
corals eventually succumb to a
lack of food and perish.
Nevertheless, I am delighted to
view some vibrant coral reefs in
their natural environment.
