Cape Horn, Chile, is the southernmost tip of South America. As
the name implies, the most obvious landmark of the place is "the
Horn," which is part of Cabo de Hornos National Park. However, the
name of the site is not based upon the horn-like rocks; rather, it is
named after the city of Hoorn in the Netherlands. In 1615 a group of
Dutch merchants and explorers attempted to look for an alternate route
to the Strait of Magellan. They left Holland for South America and
became the first team sailing around the southern tip of South America
in 1616.
