Among the top twenty longest lava tube on earth, eleven are found in
Hawaii. Many years ago I visited one of them located in Hawaii
Volcanic National Park. That lava tunnel is well-lighted and the
trail is paved. On the contrary, Lava River Cave is all natural.
Inside Lava River Cave, the rocks are sharp and slippery, and hikers
are surrounded by complete darkness. Although I wore a pair of hiking shoes and a
head lamp, I stepped on a loose rock and fell down. I was
not injured, but my tripod was broken. Nevertheless, the trip is a
wonderful experience. Due to the deposit of rich minerals, some icy
rocks are golden and shiny. In addition, some cave walls are like
abstract paintings.
