Four Peaks, the tallest mountains in the Phoenix area, are located
about 60 miles northeast of Phoenix, but they are visible even if
you are many miles away from them. Their elevation is just under
8,000 feet. Browns Peak is the highest one with an elevation of
7,657 feet. Four Peaks Wilderness was established in 1984 and spans
across 60,740 acres. In addition to Four Peaks, you can see the
Thumb Rock in the same area. This wilderness is the perfect location
for night photography because it is free from city light pollution.
However, in June the moon rises between Four Peaks and the Thumb Rock, rather than on top of either one. The
first two pictures are composite photos -- I moved the moon closer
to Four Peaks and Thumb Rock.
