Jasper Forest

Petrified wood is fossilized wood. After trees were dead and buried, minerals seeped into them and replaced the original contents with rock. In other words, the form is tree-like but the substance is rock. Some replacement is valuable crystal. Unfortunately, some thoughtless tourists removed the crystal and left the hollows in the wood.
