White Hoodoos: Mystery of Nature

Wahweep hoodoos

Grand Staircase Escalante

A hoodoo is an erosional rock pillar in badland topography. Although hoodoos are commonly found in Northern Arizona and Southern Utah for these lands are rich in entrada sandstone, these white hoodoos located in Wahweap Wash, Grand Staircase Escalenate National Monument, have a white body and a brown cap, which are extremely rare. This area is literally in the middle of nowhere. The length between the trailhead and the destination is 9.2 miles and normally it takes 5 hours to complete the round trip. But our team were disoriented several times and as a result we spent 6.5 hours wandering around the wilderness despite that we had collected a lot of information in advance.
