The diesel engine in the power plant of the
Vulture Mine was made in Germany, and was shipped to the mine in 1904. After the gold
mine had been exhausted, the mining
settlement became a ghost town though Wickenburg continues to exist.
When the mine closed in 1942, people who left believed that they would
return in six months. But the mine never reopened. It is not
exaggerating to say that the development of Arizona and the city of
Phoenix could be attributed to the Vulture Mine. In spite of its
historic value, the settlement had never been restored. Today what you
can see is just a ruin. Nevertheless, it is still a "gold mine" for
photographers who like nostalgia.
