The Watts Towers were created by an Italian immigrant named Simon Rodia and therefore the official name of the structure is "the Watts Towers of Simon Rodia". Rodia came to the US in the late 19th century. In 1921, he purchased a land in Los Angeles and began to work on this masterpiece. Rodia was a short man (4 ft. 10 in.), but he single-handedly used broken glass, sea shells, generic pottery and tile to create the towers. However, after suffering from a serious injury resulted from the construction (he fell down and could not get up for two days), he decided to end the project abruptly.
