Villa Vizcaya was once owned by Florida business man James Deering and today it is a museum open to the public. Interestingly, this villa was built between 1914-1923 in a retrofit fashion. Encouraged by an interior decorator, starting from 1910 James Deering collected a large number of art items, antiquities, and architectural elements before the blueprint of the mansion was even conceptualized. Afterwards, he hired an architect to design a structure to fit his collections! As shown in the first two photos, Deering so admired explorers that a ship-styled stature was installed at the bay to symbolize the Age of Exploration.
