Geographically speaking, Antarctic is "the end of the world."
Arctic is not a continent whereas Antarctica is the last land mass;
you cannot go further south after reaching the south pole. But today
the phrase "the end of the world" has another implication. Due to climate change (commonly known as global warming), ice
and glaciers in Antarctica are melting rapidly. The temperature of
Antarctic Peninsula has increased about 4.5 degree (Fahrenheit) in the
last 50 years, which is five times faster than the global average.
Melting of the Antarctic ice sheet would raise the sea level by 61.1
meters. If this happens, many costal cities, such as New Orleans, New
York, and Los Angeles will be submerged into water (Phoenix is OK).
