The Territory of Cheung's Family is located in the northwest
region of Hunan, China. In 1982 it was designated the first
national forest park of China. In 1992 it was included into UNESCO's World
Natural Heritage List. Needless to say, the park had attracted numerous
tourists. In the past due to its
flourishing tourism and over-development, UNESCO warned China that the Territory of
Cheung's Family might be removed from the World Natural Heritage List.
In 2007 the China's government started devoting efforts to
restore the park. The endeavors eventually paid off. In 2010 the
park had basically recovered and thus the government requested
UNESCO to take the name of the park out of the endangered list. My
family visited the park in January 2011 and we were excited to
enjoy its unpolluted view.
